Lavanilla Coconut Scrub

My most “Libran” tendency is most likely my penchant for the lovely… the aesthetically pleasing, the sweet smelling, the dreams that float up from a beautiful place or experience. It follows suit that I’ve always sought out perfumes, tinctures and other “beauty-enhancing” products… and since studying at IIN and developing my interest in holistic health, it follows suit that I’d like to make my own, thank you very much.   This Lavanilla Coconut Scrub brings together some loves of mine: equal parts coconut oil and brown (or turbinado) sugar ten drops lavender essential oil one half tsp pure vanilla extract sprinkle of cinnamon It could hardly be easier… melt your coconut oil and stir in the sugar once it’s removed from heat. Drop in your lavender oil, vanilla and cinnamon. Inhale… deeply. Because that, my friends, is a “yum”. Exfoliating just feels good. It should smell good too. Not to mention the healthy fats and moisture you’re lending your skin in these blustery months.

Morning Mind

Not fully awake, I catch a glimpse of myself in my iPad screen. I have big ol’ bags under my eyes. My braid did not survive sleep, and frays out wonk-ily. I’m grinning full-heartedly, having just read a post from Green Kitchen Stories: a young daughter’s innocent inquiry into her father’s adoration. “Why do you like me so much?” Well, gosh. Ain’t that a question, right there. Why do you like me so much? The lady laughing back at me from this reflective screen looks so foreign and so loved, so universally taken care of. Something has given her these laugh lines. Something has kept her up past midnight and woken her early, something she cares about. Something pulled her from her bed to this sunlit Saturday coffee shop in the depths of Queens. Why do you like me so much? I like you because though you delve into those dirty realms of “should bes”, you come out into the world uncovered and trust that you’re practicing every day to feel more connected and comfortable …
